The Professor Chia-Kuang (Frank) Tsung Memorial Research Award honors the legacy of Prof. Chia-Kuang (Frank) Tsung, a distinguished Taiwanese chemist whose pioneering research significantly advanced the fields of nanotechnology, catalysis, and materials chemistry. After earning his bachelor's degree from National Sun Yat-sen University in Tawain, he completed his Ph.D. under the supervision of Professor Galen Stucky at the University of California, Santa Barbara, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2010, he joined the faculty at Boston College, where he established an internationally recognized research program.

Professor Tsung's research focused on the rational design of nanostructured materials for energy conversion, sustainable catalysis, and targeted drug delivery. His pioneering contributions to tandem catalysis and MOFs nanomaterials opened new opportunities for clean energy technologies and precision cancer therapy. Beyond his scientific accomplishments, Professor Tsung was a cherished collaborator of the BioMOF research community in Taiwan. Through his vision, generosity, and leadership, he helped strengthen Taiwan's MOF research network and fostered lasting collaborations with the international MOF community.

Prof. Tsung passed away in Boston in January 2021 due to complications from COVID-19 at the age of 44. This Memorial Research Award commemorates his outstanding scientific achievements, his unwavering dedication to education and mentorship, and the profound impact he made on colleagues, students, and the global scientific community. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of scientists to pursue innovative research, cultivate international collaboration, and develop scientific advances that benefit society.

Prof. Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu

Distinguished Professor

Department of Chemical Engineering, National Taiwan University

Professor Kevin C.-W. Wu is internationally recognized for his pioneering research on functional nanoporous materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), and nanomaterials for biomedical, catalytic, and sustainable energy applications. His work has significantly advanced the development of nanomaterials for drug delivery, biomaterials, heterogeneous catalysis, and environmentally sustainable technologies. He has received numerous prestigious honors, including the Wu Da-Yu Award, the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship, multiple Outstanding Research Awards, and recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for four consecutive years (2020–2023).

In August 2026, Professor Wu will begin a new chapter in his career by joining TSMC, bringing his expertise in advanced materials and innovation from academia to the semiconductor industry.

As the recipient of the Prof. Chia-Kuang (Frank) Tsung Memorial Research Award, Professor Wu carries forward Professor Tsung's legacy by recognizing outstanding researchers whose work embodies the spirit of scientific innovation, excellence, and dedication. He has also played a pivotal role in advancing Taiwan's MOF community as the founding Chair of the MOF Taiwan Conference, established in 2019, which has become an important platform for fostering scientific exchange and international collaboration in the MOF field.
